Whirlpool Assembly Aid
Project Length
5 weeks
Design and Project Intent
To design an assembly aid for operators that provides better safety and increases faster production by eliminating wasteful time.
problem statement : old installation issues
"I have difficult times trying to keep up with the production flow of installing bottom draw freezers. "
"I find out that I get back pain from bending over trying to put in the pins to hold the drawer while I install the piece."
"I always seem to get hurt while installing a bottom drawer freezer because I have to reach around the hinge."
resource : assembly aid fits here
Push pin mechanism slides into this hole. The pin holds the weight of the door allowing operators to screw in screws on the other side. This pushes the pin back releasing the aid.
Magnet placements to hold assembly aid.
The assembly aid is designed to fit overtop the hinges. There will be a step down in the aid to fit inside the grooves.
